Week 2: Recognizing Our Call to Serve

As followers of Christ, we are called to serve those in need, including refugees and immigrants who often find themselves in unfamiliar lands. This week, we will explore our biblical mandate to care for the stranger. This calling is not merely a duty; it is a beautiful opportunity to share the love of Christ with those who may be feeling lost, alone, or marginalized.

Leviticus 19:33-34 (NIV)

“When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.”

This passage emphasizes the importance of compassion and hospitality, urging us to see every person through the lens of love. God calls us to dissolve barriers and embrace the inherent value of every individual, challenging us to love the stranger as ourselves. Reflecting on our own experiences as outsiders can deepen our empathy and drive our desire to serve.

When we serve refugees and immigrants, we engage in a divine mission of healing and reconciliation. Each act of kindness becomes a reflection of God’s grace and love, demonstrating that His heart knows no borders. Let’s approach this week with open hearts, ready to learn from the stories of those we meet, and to embody the heart of Christ in our service

Let’s Pray

We come before You today with grateful hearts, recognizing the call You have placed on each of our lives to serve others, especially those who may feel like strangers. As we prepare to meet refugees this week, we ask for Your guidance and strength. Help us to approach each encounter with love, compassion, and an open heart. May we reflect Your grace in our words and actions, and may our service be a source of comfort and hope for those we meet.

Lord, grant us the wisdom to understand their stories and the courage to break down any barriers that divide us. May we approach each interaction with humility, eager to learn and grow from these new friendships. Let our time together be blessed and transformative, not only for our new friends but for us as well. We thank You for the opportunity to serve and for the joy it brings into our lives.

As we step out in faith this week, remind us that our service is a reflection of Your love for us and for the world. May we be instruments of peace and hope, shining Your light in every interaction. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
